i really hate to post something like this on my blog so soon, especially since i’ve done so little in the way of rp on here, but i feel like this warrants a saying ( despite involving a fandom completely different from my own oops ).
calling out whitewashing and being vocal about calling it out and not supporting it does not a toxic fandom make. i’ve come from some seriously awful, toxic fandoms. m*rvel. h*milton. i’ve dealt with plenty of bullshit in my time and considering how stigmatized the twilight fandom is, it’s AMAZING how nice and wonderful and generally accepting the rp community is.
to be honest, i applaud @agnelino for the stuff she has said about the whitewashing problem in the fandom. it is something that needs to be said. we need to realize that it’s not okay to do this, especially when there are so many lovely poc actors who would make lovely faceclaims for the characters we are portraying. and honestly, as someone with native american descent that gets laughed at and treated as a joke by certain people in certain toxic ass fandoms because it’s not poc enough when you are also very, very white, it’s extremely insulting to see that get erased in the community even more with unnecessarily whitewashed faceclaims.
tl;dr @agnelino is a fucking champ and calling out whitewashing and being vocal about not supporting it does not make the community toxic. if pointing out just how shitty it is to whitewash characters is turning people away from the rp community then fuck ‘em. we don’t need people who are going to get pissy about having their internalized racism called out anyway.
