SHE DOES THE impossible – edward LAUGHS. it is a ROUGH sound, as if SELDOM used because it is. low and BREATHY, spread through his chest and up his throat like warm MOLASSES. thick and HEADY. rambutant strands sway with the SHARP jerk of his head, a dismissal of his OWN, at her accusation. she’s right – he’s a bit PRETENTIOUS. a little TOO overexcited at the prospect of STIMULATING conversation. the closest he ever gets is with jasper, or carlisle, but the first is EASILY distracted and the second too busy doing GOOD unto the world to spare too much TIME. he doesn’t BLAME them, but he aches with LONELINESS even on his GOOD days ( though these are, PATHETICALLY, few and far between ).
“ FORGIVE me. i don’t mean to sound like such an ASS. ” the laughter SUBSIDES as he redirects his attention to the task at hand. but his tongue WAGS just a little longer. “ unfortunately, i am NOT a cullen, no matter how much i WISH it to be so. if you wish to talk down to me CONDESCENDINGLY, at least use my TRUE name. MASEN. ”
a warm smile creeps upon her lips – finding gratification in his laughter, PRIDE in being able to ignite such a thing. and as much as she, too, has excitement illicit from the depth of their conversation – her beliefs and philosophies come from a place of SECRETS; things she couldn’t quite talk about. ❛ you only sound interesting, ❜ she retorts as she shifts her gaze to the blackboard, which is spammed with notes. ❛ well – i’m sorry for my assumption, then. you seem to be FRIENDLY with most of them, so i figured… – ❜ her lips press together to form a sympathetic expression, then, ❛ and so, why do you say that? —- are there negative connotations to be made with your actual family? ❜ her voice becomes quieter, and she asks without much consideration; she hasn’t filtered herself with the idea that maybe, he wouldn’t want to talk about such a thing.
