❛ … i want to go, ❜ to school— oh, most kids charlie’s “age” DESPISE the place, rue the month of SEPTEMBER and rejoice in the month of JUNE. but charlie? charlie’s never known it. what he’s known are books at the breakfast table, math tests on sundays & history at the hour of six. but what he wants TO KNOW… ARE PEOPLE; he’s been kept at A DISTANCE from the rest of the world. he knows the woods better than he knows the local SHOPPING MALL, and while some parents might take that with pride; there’s something isolating about that little known fact.
the difficulty of this parenthood laid in the complications of charlie’s development, and now – trying to explain such a thing to him, which would inevitably seem like excuses made to hold him BACK. they’re only trying to keep him safe —- ALL of them safe —- any exposure, any minimal offset, was bound to be their doom if the volturi were to find out. so she sympathizes. ❛ i know.. ❜ she says quietly, pale fingers brushing through her son’s hair in a tender notion. she kneels in front of him, then, hand moving to gently cup his face —- ❛ and you WILL. one day, cross my heart and hope to die. i know it’s not fair. ❜ her hands reach down, to hold his small ones in hers as she looks to him. ❛ and i HOPE you can understand why you can’t right now. you’re SPECIAL. and we gotta be careful, because of that. you’re gonna grow – almost a MILLION, ❜ she exaggerates, ❛ – times quicker than they will. they’ll notice. ❜ she feels HURT, dread setting within her at the need to DENY such a thing from him; she’s quickly thinking of alternatives. ❛ but. let me talk to your dad. maybe we can WORK SOMETHING OUT ——– i don’t know if you’d be able to attend a full year, but maybe a month or two. maybe a semester, if we’re lucky. would you like that? would that be okay? FOR NOW – at least. ❜
